Comprehensive ABA Program

Our Services: Neuro-Informed, Modular ABA Therapy

At ABA Kids, we believe that every child’s neurodivergence is a unique blueprint, not a puzzle to be "solved." Our services are built on over 25 years of medical and clinical excellence in the Durham Region, spearheaded by Dr. Sohail Khattak. We don’t just provide behavioral intervention; we provide Precision ABA, a multidisciplinary, neuro-informed approach that merges the science of behavior with the latest advancements in genetics and clinical pharmacology.

The Modular ABA Philosophy: Why One Size Does Not Fit All

Most ABA providers offer a rigid, high-intensity model that may not suit every family's schedule or every child's specific developmental stage. At ABA Kids, we have pioneered the Modular ABA framework.

This approach allows us to break down therapy into specific, high-impact modules. Whether your child needs intensive foundational support to master a specific skill, like social communication or emotional regulation, our modular system customizes the schedule to accommodate your child’s needs, skills, and your availability. This flexibility ensures that intervention is effective, sustainable, and respectful of the child’s natural potentials.

The Benefits of Modular Design:

  • Targeted Goals: We focus on the skills that matter most to your child and family right now.
  • Resource Optimization: Families can allocate their OAP (Ontario Autism Program) funding toward the specific modules that offer the highest return on investment for their child’s development.
  • Evolving Care: As your child grows, their "module" can shift from early intensive intervention to school-readiness or social-skills groups.

Comprehensive 1:1 ABA (including Early Behavioral Intervention)

For any children with significant developmental gaps, our Comprehensive ABA program provides a robust foundation through evidence-based interventions, including Discrete Trial Training (DTT) and Natural Environment Teaching (NET).

What Sets Our Comprehensive Program Apart?

While many clinics focus solely on overt behaviors, ABA Kids integrates a Medical-Behavioral Bridge. Before therapy begins, we look at the whole child. Our goals include:

  • Communication & Language: We use a mix of Natural Environment Teaching ((NET), such as Pivotal Response Treatment (PRT)), and structured sessions to foster functional communication.
  • Daily Living Skills: We prioritize "life-changing" skills, including independent toileting, dressing, and feeding routines.
  • Cognitive Readiness: Preparing the brain for a classroom environment by building attention, memory, and instructional control.
  • Functional Play: We use child-led, play-based interventions to improve functional play and social group skills.
  • Motor Skills: From gross motor skills to fine motor skills, we work on writing, colouring, cutting lines, etc.

Neuro-Informed Social Skills Groups

Socialization is not about "acting neurotypical" or “masking”; it is about finding meaningful ways to connect with others while honoring one's own sensory and cognitive needs. Our Social Skills modules are designed for children and teens who have mastered basic communication but struggle with the nuances of peer interaction.

Specialized 1:1 and Group Modules:

  • The Friendship Builders (Ages 6–10): Focuses on turn-taking, sharing joy, and understanding social cues in a play-based environment.
  • The Transition Hub (Ages 11–14): Prepares pre-teens for the social complexities of middle school, focusing on conflict resolution and digital safety.
  • Neuro-Pride Socials: A space where older children can engage in shared interests (e.g., gaming, art) while practicing self-advocacy and perspective-taking

Precision Medicine Integration: Genetics & Pharmacology

This is the "KidsClinic" advantage. As a clinic led by experts in Clinical Pharmacology and Teratology, we understand that a child’s response to ABA is often dictated by their biology.

Genetic Awareness in ABA

If your child has a known genetic marker (such as variations in SLC6A1, SCN2A, or Fragile X), their learning profile is unique. We adjust our ABA protocols to match these biological realities. For example, a child with specific metabolic challenges may have varying energy levels throughout the day; we schedule our highest-demand learning modules to align with their peak metabolic windows.

Pharmacogenomics & Medication Support

Many of our clients are prescribed medications to manage co-occurring conditions like ADHD, anxiety, or sleep disturbances.

  • Reducing Trial and Error: We provide insights into how genetic testing can inform medication choices, ensuring that pharmacological support works with the ABA therapy, not against it.
  • Behavioral Data for Doctors: Our BCBAs collect precise data on how medications affect behavior, providing your pediatrician or psychiatrist with the evidence they need to fine-tune dosages.

Parent Coaching & Empowered Caregiving

We believe that the best "therapists" in a child's life are their parents. However, being a parent to a neurodivergent child is exhausting. Our Parent Empowerment Module is designed to provide you with tools, not just tasks.

  • Behavioral Strategy Workshops: Learn how to manage "meltdowns" vs. "tantrums" using antecedent-based interventions.
  • The Circle of Care Training: We teach you how to coordinate between teachers, doctors, and therapists so that your child receives a consistent message across all environments.
  • OAP Navigation: We provide 1:1 sessions to help you understand your OAP budget, how to submit expense reports, and how to maximize your "Core Clinical Services" funding.

Navigating the OAP (Ontario Autism Program) in Durham

As an OAP-Approved Provider, ABA Kids makes the financial side of therapy as transparent as possible. We serve families in Ajax, Pickering, Whitby, Oshawa, and Clarington.

How to Use Your Funding with Us:

  1. Core Clinical Services: Our ABA, SLP (Speech-Language Pathology), and OT (Occupational Therapy) consultations are all eligible expenses under your OAP budget.
  2. Evidence-Based Reporting: We provide the rigorous clinical documentation required by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services to ensure your funding is renewed and your expenses are approved.
  3. Modular Billing: Our modular approach allows you to "buy" specific sets of hours or specific programs that fit within your budget cycles.

The Science of Success: Our Data-Driven Approach

At the heart of ABA is data. Every session at ABA Kids is tracked using advanced clinical software, ensuring that we aren't just "guessing" if a child is improving.

  • Visual Progress Reports: Parents receive monthly graphs showing skill acquisition and the reduction of challenging behaviors.
  • Monthly Clinical Reviews: Your child’s BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) reviews the data weekly to make real-time adjustments. If a child isn't progressing in a specific module, we immediately change the teaching method.
  • Generalization: We don't just teach a skill in the clinic; we ensure the child can perform that skill at home, at the park, and in the classroom.

8. Why Choose ABA Kids for Your Family?

Choosing an ABA provider is one of the most significant decisions a parent will make. Here is why the KidsClinic / ABA Kids alliance is unique:

  • 25+ Years of Trust: We have been a pillar of the Durham medical community for decades.
  • Multidisciplinary Oversight: Your child’s behavior plan is reviewed not just by behavioral experts, but with an eye toward their medical and genetic history.
  • Compassion First: We use "Compassionate ABA" techniques, prioritizing the child’s dignity and emotional well-being over compliance.
  • A Supportive Environment: Our Ajax facility is designed to be sensory-friendly, welcoming, and fun—a place where children feel safe taking risks and learning.
